Winter arrived this week in a rush. On Wednesday night there was light snow on the Crowsnest - and again we missed it. We were told when we bought this piece of land that it gets one good fall of snow a year. That has indeed happened and we have missed each one. The 2009 winter is not over yet! Today our bed arrived, and this week the shelving in our room and the laundry was installed. The house is now complete except for a few items of bedroom furniture.
We love it. There is a picture out of every window and sometimes we wander from window to window just looking out. On the whole there is disappointingly little activity out there. We have seen turkeys pass through - the thrill of it! - you'd think we'd seen a herd of giraffes! We have regular visits from a pair of plovers, and almost inevitably they are followed by magpies, which sometimes succeed in getting the plovers on the wing. The clever plovers know they are safe from magpie terrorism if they stay on the ground. The hares are back but we see them seldom. Arry the Australian harrier hawk glides easily over. And then Roy and the boys come over the hill and down the horizon. Plenty to see if you wait long enough!
